First ODE

February 6th 2009

We did our first Intro ODE (max height 65cm).

Was a lot of fun. Shina was quite calm on arrival this time out.

Dressage was, hmmmm, okay, lol, but we did it.

We had 1 stop in the show jumping and that was at the first jump,

mostly rider error!! Cleared the rest well, even tho at a trot, and

'hoping' over them! Cross country was a nice wee course (except

for the staircase), mostly trotted round because I just couldn't get

her to go any faster, she was busy spooking at the ground and the

numbers on the jumps! So, we jumped most of them from an almost

standstill, LOL, cause she was hesitant on the approach to them all.

We posted a big "E" because of the 'lose of forward motion' at some

of the jumps, but's okay, because we got around and had fun. Will post xcountry pics
when I have them.

Our Second Show

Took Shina to a mini show on Sunday 26th October (it was raining and rather cold!), we got a 4th place in Best Riding Club Mount. She was feeling rather 'forward' this time, not much in the 'brakes' department either, or the 'listening' department, but she did try hard and was good.

Very little spookiness as well, which is great! She also didn't mind the umbrellas that were present, which was also great, considering she isn't used to them.

No piccies from this one tho.

Kashina's First Show

Yesterday Shina went to her first show where she competed - we came home with 5 ribbons! It was our first show of the season, The Hairy Horse Show which was an informal, low key fun day, was a lovely sunny hot day (too hot for me really). This was a huge buzz for me, as Shina has only been out 5 times in the last year, and was way too excited, wound up for me to ride during those first times out! She was really chilled out this time and she was very pleased with her ribbons! She also did some games for the first time - bending, barrel race and key hole, and she stayed calm and sensible.

We did 3 inhand classes and are few ridden flat classes. We got 1st in Nicest Walk inhand, for the ridden classes we got 1st in Best Combination and 2nd in Judges Choice (combination exhibiting the spirit of the day); I can't remember what the other 2nd and the 4th placing were for though. Shina also jumped her very first painted pole cross bar without spooking at it, just flew over it, was only small, lol, (she's never seen painted poles before, but the plain cross country jump she saw was very scary!).
We are going to a mini show at Labour Weekend (pleasure horse ring), so am looking forward to that now that we're getting ourselves sorted and more confident.

Awatea Leather 'n' Lace (Kashina)

This is Shina (shinaboo/mud muffin), 7 year old TB/Stationbred. Sire - BS Kahurangi Black & White Pinto, Dam - Carly Grey TB.

We've been together 3 years now.

We are destined for low level stuff, as that's all the confidence I have right now ;-)

Shina seems to have a love of goats, LOL, she licks them and mother's them and also lets them share her food, and the goats also like to stand on her when she's sleeping (another 'plaything' for the goats).
